A Farewell Not Withstood

When the wind carries the salty scent of the smooth sea from the south,
and a void forms in the balmy air where you once stood,
I know that I no longer belong to these people, nor to this town,
as a dull pain still lingers – of a farewell not withstood.

When I hit the road and race towards the sun,
and horizons speak of oblivious bliss,
before long, precious dreams of rebirth come undone;
wherever I roam, it’s you whom I miss.

When hazy nights get lonely,
and vices nurtured,
restless, I watch my back closely
and run ever further –

from you.
